Tennis fans can now stay updated on all the latest action at Wimbledon 2024 with the new AI-powered Catch Me Up tool. Developed by the All-England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) in partnership with IBM’s Watsonx generative AI platform, Catch Me Up provides player-based updates in the form of “cards” on the Wimbledon.com website or mobile app. This tool aims to bring fans closer to the matches, even if they are not physically present at the tournament.

During a media briefing, Chris Clements, Digital Products Lead at AELTC, highlighted the importance of keeping fans engaged with Wimbledon, especially during the initial days of the tournament when there is a lot of action happening. The Catch Me Up tool utilizes structured tournament data and external sources like Sportsradar to provide accurate summaries and shine a spotlight on lesser-known players, particularly in junior or wheelchair tournaments.

IBM’s Head of Sport Partnerships, Kevin Farrar, explained how the model is trained to capture the Wimbledon tone of voice, ensuring a unique experience for fans. The launch of Catch Me Up coincides with IBM’s research showing that a majority of tennis fans believe technology like generative AI will positively impact the sport, with benefits in game strategy, coaching, and talent identification.

Overall, the Catch Me Up tool enhances the Wimbledon experience for fans worldwide, offering a convenient and engaging way to follow the tournament’s progress and discover new stories within the competition.
