Researchers have developed an artificial intelligence tool called Foresight that can predict future events in a patient’s life, such as symptoms and prescribed treatments, by analyzing their digital health records. The tool was trained using data from over 800,000 patients from the UK and the US, and it showed promising results in predicting future medical events accurately. The study was conducted by researchers at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London and was published in The Lancet Digital Health.

Foresight was able to correctly identify the next 10 disorders likely to appear in a patient’s timeline in a significant percentage of cases, as well as predict upcoming medical events like the onset of a disorder or medication with high accuracy. This AI-powered healthcare tool could potentially improve clinical decision-making and patient monitoring in real-time.

In addition to Foresight, other AI tools are being developed to enhance doctors’ diagnoses. For example, the American start-up Hippocratic AI is working on a virtual health agent concept powered by generative artificial intelligence, which aims to create a virtual assistant capable of understanding and reacting to patients’ emotions through remote dialogues on a tablet. These advancements in AI technology have the potential to revolutionize healthcare and improve patient outcomes.
