Apple announced the personal AI ‘Apple Intelligence’ at WWDC24, which will be integrated with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other chatbots like Google’s Gemini. This integration is expected to be released in fall 2024. Apple Intelligence will offer various AI functions such as text creation, evolved Siri, summarization, and transcription, and will be compatible with iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.
Apple plans to integrate additional chatbots and large-scale language models into Apple Intelligence beyond ChatGPT and GPT-4o. Executives expressed intentions to integrate AI models like Google’s Gemini into Apple products, indicating a partnership with Google and AI startup Anthropic. The formal announcement of this partnership with Google is expected in the fall of 2024.
Before the official announcement, reports indicated that Apple was in talks with Google to integrate Gemini into their products. However, at the time of writing, OpenAI was the only AI company Apple had partnered with. Additionally, there were discussions about forming an AI partnership with Meta, but Apple rejected Meta’s offer to provide AI.
Apple Intelligence will be included in the iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates in the second half of 2024 for English-speaking users in the United States. It will be available on devices with A17 Pro and M1 chips or later, with plans to expand to more languages in the future.
