At Apple’s WWDC24 keynote on June 11, 2024, a new personal AI called Apple Intelligence was announced for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple also revealed plans to integrate Google’s multimodal AI, Gemini, into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This move was confirmed by Apple’s senior executives, Craig Federighi and John Giannandrea, who expressed a desire to allow users to choose the AI models they want to use on Apple products.
Apple has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, enabling features like writing assistance, recording transcription, and image generation. OpenAI emphasized privacy protection features when accessing ChatGPT through Siri, ensuring user requests are not stored and IP addresses are obscured.
Federighi stated that Apple chose to integrate ChatGPT into their products because they wanted to start with the best in the industry. Additionally, there have been reports suggesting that Apple may adopt Gemini to enhance its AI capabilities further.
