Elon Musk warns his companies would ban Apple devices after OpenAI deal: 'Unacceptable security violation'

Elon Musk, billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, stated that he would ban Apple devices at his companies if Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level, calling it an unacceptable security violation. Musk also mentioned that visitors would have to check their Apple devices at the door and store them in a Faraday cage. Apple and OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

Earlier, Apple announced AI features and a partnership with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT technology to its devices, emphasizing privacy as a core feature. Musk criticized Apple for not developing their own AI and questioned their ability to ensure security and privacy with OpenAI. Musk had previously sued OpenAI and its CEO for allegedly abandoning the original mission of developing AI for humanity’s benefit.

Musk has founded xAI as a competitor to OpenAI, aiming to challenge and build an alternative to ChatGPT. xAI was valued at $24 billion in its last funding round, raising $6 billion in series B funding. Musk’s stance on banning Apple devices at his companies is rooted in concerns over security and privacy issues related to integrating OpenAI at the operating system level.
