The use of AI chatbots is on the rise, with Google’s AI chatbot Bard becoming available to teens in most countries and ChatGPT pausing new signups due to high demand. Google outlined Bard’s potential uses for teens, including help with school projects and math equations, with safety features to prevent illegal or unsafe content. OpenAI also paused new signups for ChatGPT after a surge in usage post developer conference.
While chatbots are expanding their user bases, they remain a contentious issue in Hollywood, with concerns about studios using AI to write scripts. During a writer’s strike, negotiations included safeguards around AI-generated scripts and the use of human writers to train chatbots. The Writers Guild of America and studios agreed to a deal allowing the use of AI as long as work created by AI is disclosed and does not affect writers’ credit or compensation. The deal also suggests that studios are looking for writers to collaborate with AI tools like chatbots.
