The International Monetary Fund (IMF) research indicates that AI has the potential to reshape the global economy by both endangering and creating jobs. Advanced economies could see 33% of jobs at risk, while emerging and low-income countries face lower percentages. However, AI also offers opportunities to enhance productivity and create new industries.

The IMF’s AI Preparedness Index Dashboard for 174 economies shows that wealthier countries are better equipped for AI adoption compared to low-income nations. While emerging markets may face fewer immediate disruptions from AI due to their lower share of high-skilled jobs, they may struggle to harness AI’s benefits due to lack of infrastructure and skilled workforces, potentially exacerbating global inequality.

The index assesses readiness in four areas: digital infrastructure, human capital and labor market policies, innovation and economic integration, and regulation. The data highlights the disparities in AI preparedness between different economies and emphasizes the importance of addressing these gaps to ensure that the benefits of AI are shared more equitably.
