Instagram replaces ‘Made with AI’ label with ‘AI info’ #AIinfo

Meta announced that they are updating the ‘Made with AI’ label to ‘AI info’ across their apps after complaints that the tag was applied incorrectly to some images. This change aims to more accurately represent that the content may be modified rather than entirely AI-generated. The issue seems to stem from metadata tools like Adobe Photoshop and how platforms interpret that data. Meta has expanded its policies around labeling AI content, leading to real-life pictures being tagged as ‘Made with AI’ on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.

The new labeling will first appear on mobile apps and then on the web view. Clicking on the tag will provide a detailed explanation of why it was applied, covering images fully generated by AI or edited with AI tools like Generative Fill. Despite efforts to simplify the distinction between AI-generated and real images with technologies like C2PA, the future of easily identifying AI content is still evolving.

Meta spokesperson Kate McLaughlin stated that they are continuously improving their AI products and working closely with industry partners on their approach to AI labeling. The goal is to ensure that users have accurate information about the origin and nature of the content they encounter on Meta’s platforms.
