A recent report by CV Genius revealed that the majority of hiring managers in the UK view the use of artificial intelligence (AI) content in job applications as a red flag when considering candidates. The survey, which gathered over 620 responses from hiring managers, found that 80% of them viewed AI-generated content negatively. Additionally, almost three-quarters of respondents admitted they could recognize when AI had been used to write an application, with over half considering it a dealbreaker.
Hiring managers in the legal and computing sectors were particularly opposed to AI-generated content, with almost half of recruiters in these industries saying they would discard an application that appeared to be AI-generated. Zoomers, those born between 1997-2012, were 67% more likely than older generations to reject an applicant for using AI in their application.
The use of AI in the job selection process has become more common in recent years, with four in 10 companies expected to adopt AI for job interviews by this year. Some companies even plan to select candidates with no human input at all. Research has shown that almost 40% of British graduates have used AI to improve their job applications.
Overall, the report highlights the negative perception of AI-generated content in job applications among hiring managers in the UK, particularly in certain industries and among younger generations.
