Maxym Hrynev, a self-taught coder from Ukraine with over 20 years of experience in IT, recently developed Natulang, a language learning program driven by AI and audio technology. He is testing a new version of the app to assist visually impaired individuals in language acquisition. Maxym’s diverse IT background includes gaming, software security, and work at Amazon and Microsoft. The idea for Natulang emerged over seven years ago, and the app was accelerated after Maxym’s injury in 2022.
Natulang focuses on speaking to learn languages naturally, with grammar acquisition happening intuitively. The app also enables blind individuals to learn languages effectively. Currently available only on iOS, the Android version is delayed due to bugs. Maxym utilized AWS Polly and ElevenLabs for speech synthesis and faced challenges assembling a team of linguists.
Natulang has gained approximately 10,000 users, with a subscription-based model and a growing user base. The team is expanding courses to include more languages and plans to cater to different language speakers. Maxym has invested $100,000 of his savings into development and continues to invest in the app’s growth.
Future plans for Natulang include adding languages with Cyrillic alphabets and other alphabets like Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Arabic, and Hebrew. The team aims to create English courses for speakers of various languages, with a focus on providing intensive one-year daily learning courses for users to confidently converse in any situation.
