The Microsoft Surface Pro (2024) and new Copilot+ PCs are expected to run a broad ecosystem of Windows applications well, according to a senior Microsoft executive. While gaming may not be supported, productivity apps are a focus. Application compatibility has improved with more developers going native with their apps, and Windows has been redesigned to run emulated apps faster and more efficiently. The Snapdragon X Elite’s multithreaded CPU also enhances app performance and responsiveness. However, gaming may be limited due to the lack of anti-cheat on Arm, but cloud gaming is being emphasized. Qualcomm is continuously optimizing games for its Snapdragon chips. Microsoft’s new Surface devices are introducing the era of Copilot+ PCs, and it remains to be seen if they will deliver on their promises.
