OpenAI acquires video-first collaboration platform Multi

OpenAI has acquired Multi, a video-first remote collaboration platform, with most of Multi’s team joining OpenAI after the transaction. Multi’s CEO announced that the platform will be shut down after July 24, 2024. Multi was founded in 2019 by ex-Dropbox product manager Alexander Embiricos and ex-Google software engineer Charley Ho. The platform, aimed at enterprise users, allows up to ten users to communicate via screen sharing and customisable shortcuts. Before the acquisition, Multi had raised $13m in funding. This acquisition follows OpenAI’s purchase of enterprise analytics company Rockset, showing a strategic focus on enhancing enterprise solutions. The deal between OpenAI and Multi was undisclosed in terms of financial specifics. Multi had undergone a rebranding from ‘Remotion’ to ‘Multi’ in July 2023, based on user feedback and a product shift. The acquisition deal will see most of Multi’s team joining OpenAI, indicating a strategic move towards enhancing their enterprise solutions.
