OpenAI Looks To Boost Data Retrieval Capabilities Of Its GenAI Technology With Rockset Acquisition

OpenAI has acquired Rockset, a developer of a high-powered data search and analytics database, to enhance the data retrieval infrastructure for its generative AI software products. The technology from Rockset will help users of OpenAI’s software better leverage their own data for AI tasks. Members of Rockset’s team will join OpenAI, but financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Rockset, founded in 2016, raised $44 million in a Series B funding round in August 2023. The Rockset database offers real-time streaming data ingest, indexing, and querying capabilities with various functionalities. OpenAI plans to integrate Rockset’s technology to improve the data retrieval infrastructure supporting its product suite, ultimately enhancing the accuracy and usefulness of its GenAI software output. The acquisition aims to make AI more accessible and beneficial to all users. Existing Rockset customers will not experience immediate changes, and a smooth transition process is promised. OpenAI’s COO expressed excitement about integrating Rockset’s foundation into their products to empower companies to transform their data into actionable intelligence.
