OpenAI’s internal AI details stolen in 2023 breach #OpenAIBreach

An Alternative to Conventional Neural Networks Could Help Reveal What AI Is Doing behind the Scenes

A hacker breached OpenAI’s internal messaging systems last year and stole details about the company’s artificial intelligence technologies, according to a report by the New York Times. The hacker accessed discussions in an online forum where employees talked about OpenAI’s latest technologies. However, they did not breach the systems where OpenAI houses and builds its AI, including ChatGPT. OpenAI executives informed employees and the board about the breach but decided not to disclose it publicly as no customer or partner information was stolen. The hacker was believed to be a private individual with no ties to a foreign government, and federal law enforcement agencies were not informed about the breach. In a separate incident, OpenAI disrupted five covert influence operations that aimed to misuse its AI models for deceptive activities online. The Biden administration planned to safeguard advanced AI models, including ChatGPT, from potential threats from China and Russia. Additionally, 16 companies developing AI pledged to prioritize the safe development of the technology amidst regulatory challenges and emerging risks.
