Samsung R&D Institute India – Bangalore (SRI-B) played a crucial role in expanding the language support of Galaxy AI by collaborating with global R&D teams to develop AI language models for various English dialects and languages like Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. Core engineers from other Samsung Research centers visited Bangalore to assist in integrating these languages into Galaxy AI, with the Hindi language model presenting unique challenges due to its regional dialects and mix of English words.
Giridhar Jakki, Head of Language AI at SRI-B, emphasized the effort put into bringing Hindi to Galaxy AI, highlighting the complexity of Hindi’s phonetic structure and the collaboration with native linguists to build the speech synthesis component. Academic partners, like the Vellore Institute of Technology, provided crucial audio data for developing the Hindi AI language model.
Galaxy AI now supports 16 languages, offering features like Live Translate, Interpreter, Note Assist, and Browsing Assist even when offline. This reflects Samsung’s commitment to collaboration and innovation in making AI tools accessible to more people globally.
Jakki expressed pride in the achievements made through collaboration and emphasized the importance of continuing to collect and analyze language data to expand access to AI tools in the future. This project showcases Samsung’s dedication to making AI tools available to a wider audience worldwide.
