Samsung’s Galaxy AI platform has successfully developed a Hindi large language model, overcoming the language’s complex phonetics and regional dialects. This achievement by Samsung’s R&D center in Bengaluru, India, marks a significant step in linguistic diversity, allowing users to enhance their language skills even offline. The development of the Hindi AI model was a complex task, involving coverage of over 20 regional dialects, tonal inflections, punctuation, and colloquialisms. Multiple rounds of AI model training using translated and transliterated data were necessary to achieve this feat. The unique phonetic challenges in developing the Hindi AI model included retroflex sounds not present in many other languages. Native linguists were consulted to create a special set of phenomes to support specific dialects, with the Vellore Institute of Technology providing segmented audio data. In addition to Hindi, the Galaxy AI platform now supports 15 other languages, including British, Indian, and Australian English, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. This expansion of language capabilities enables users worldwide to improve their language skills offline, showcasing Samsung’s commitment to linguistic diversity.
