Toys “R” Us has released the first AI-generated brand video featuring their mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe, created using OpenAI’s Sora. The company, which declared bankruptcy in 2018, has since been purchased and reappeared in Macy’s department stores. The AI promo film was revealed at the Cannes Lions Festival, receiving mixed reactions from netizens. While some were impressed by the technology, others criticized it. The video, created in partnership with creative agency Native Foreign, utilized corrective visual effects and an original music score to enhance the ad. Despite some negative feedback, the video is seen as a significant advancement in AI-generated content creation, with the potential to disrupt the digital entertainment market. The chief creative officer of Native Foreign highlighted the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of using AI for video production. However, challenges such as maintaining character consistency in different shots were also noted. The video is 66 seconds long, with only 28 seconds uploaded to YouTube, while the full version can be viewed on the Toys “R” Us website. Overall, the use of AI in creating brand videos represents a shift in the industry towards more efficient and cost-effective content production.
