WhatsApp may allow users to generate AI selfies. #AIselfies

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that allows users to create AI-generated images of themselves. This feature, called “imagine me,” requires users to upload a picture that resembles them onto Meta AI’s chatbot and provide a text prompt for the tool to generate a new image of the user. The feature is optional and can be enabled or disabled in the app’s settings.

The leaked screenshot suggests that users can imagine themselves in various settings, from the forest to outer space. This feature is similar to YouTube’s “Dream Screen,” which uses text-based prompts to generate AI images for green screen backgrounds.

Users can access this feature in any chat by typing “@Meta AI imagine me” followed by the prompt. The AI image will be processed separately and shared in the conversation, with end-to-end encryption.

It is important to note that users must opt-in to use this feature, giving them control over the images they share. The feature is still being tested, and it is unclear when it will be available to all users. WhatsApp is also making improvements to its platform for video and audio calling experiences, such as the “Speaker spotlight” feature that highlights the person talking during a screen share.
