AI-powered Llama.ttf font revolutionizes digital design. #ArtificialIntelligence

Søren Fuglede Jørgensen created a TrueType font called llama.ttf that contains a large language model. When text is typed in this font, it can change certain characters and even run a language model locally within the font. This is made possible by the HarfBuzz font extensions library, which allows fonts to contain Web Assembly code for unique text shaping. While running arbitrary code in fonts may seem risky, it is a feature inherited from PostScript and PDF rendering engines. Despite potential security concerns, Søren’s creation seems to be more for fun than making a security point. The font can perform quirky text transformations, such as replacing “o” with “ø” and running exclamation points through a language model. Overall, the llama.ttf font demonstrates the creative possibilities of incorporating code into font design.
