A data rights protection advocacy group in Austria, Noyb, has launched a privacy complaint against OpenAI, a prominent artificial intelligence developer. The complaint alleges that OpenAI’s generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT, provided false information to a public figure who requested information about themselves. OpenAI reportedly refused to correct or erase the incorrect data and did not disclose information about its training data sources. Noyb argues that this behavior may violate privacy rules in the European Union. Maartje de Graaf, a Noyb data protection lawyer, emphasized the importance of accurate and transparent results in AI systems, stating that technology must comply with legal requirements. The complaint raises concerns about the accountability and transparency of AI systems in handling personal data.
