China aims to establish 50 AI standards by 2026 #AIstandards

China is aiming to establish at least 50 sets of artificial intelligence (AI) standards by 2026 to close the gap with the United States in technology development. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) plans to cover at least 1,000 Chinese technology companies with these standards and participate in setting 20 international AI standards. This initiative aligns with a China-led resolution in the United Nations for a collaborative and inclusive business environment for AI development.

The draft policy from MIIT emphasizes the importance of AI as a foundational technology driving industrial transformation. By integrating AI into the economy, China aims to revolutionize industrial production and economic development. The policy takes a pro-market approach to guide and promote the AI industry’s development, focusing on innovation and market-friendly regulation.

The MIIT’s draft policy identifies critical technologies in the AI supply chain, including natural-language processing, computer vision, and machine learning. China’s AI industry chain comprises four layers: foundation, framework, model, and applications. More than a quarter of China’s unicorns are involved in AI and semiconductor sectors, highlighting the country’s focus on AI technology.

Overall, China’s push for AI standards and development reflects its strategic goal to enhance technological capabilities and drive economic growth through innovation and market-friendly regulation.
