Gemini on Android allows users to clone pop-windows. #dualuse

Google’s latest Gemini app beta version for Android hints at a new “drag and drop” feature in development. This feature would allow users to copy Gemini’s initial pop-up window and place it at the top of their display for split-screen use. The code in Gemini’s app on Android’s latest beta version reveals Google’s interest in enhancing its capabilities by offering a split-screen addition.

Users can split the AI’s initial pop-up window by long-pressing the handle and dragging it to create a new window. This feature is accessed by swiping up from the bottom right of the Android UI. The second window appears as a compact version of the main Gemini app, with the user’s Google account icon, suggested queries, and a text box visible. Users can interact with Gemini in both windows seamlessly.

The cloned pop-up window can be removed by dragging the bottom window up, and vice versa. While the feature is currently only shown on phones, it is likely to be available for tablets as well. The code also references Samsung, indicating that this feature may not be exclusive to Google Pixel devices.

In addition to this development, Google has expanded Gemini’s AI capabilities to more Android devices, allowing users with 6GB of RAM or more to access features like drafting text messages and asking questions. The AI is now available in Messages for a wider range of devices, with plans to incorporate it into the school system for student and teacher use.
