Google has introduced new Gemini AI features for Gmail that allow users to summarize email threads and draft new messages. The Gemini sidebar is now available on the web and users can receive proactive prompts or ask freeform questions using Google’s advanced models like Gemini 1.5 Pro. The mobile app version of Gmail will also include thread summaries. However, these features are only available to paying customers who are Google Workspace customers with a Gemini Business or Enterprise add-on, Gemini Education or Education Premium add-on, or Google One AI Premium subscriber. Google advises users to verify important emails generated by Gemini due to potential AI inaccuracies. The Gemini features are also being integrated into Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, following recent announcements at Google’s I/O event. Future AI enhancements for Gmail include “Contextual Smart Reply.” These updates reflect Google’s commitment to enhancing productivity tools with AI to streamline workflow and improve the user experience.
