Microsoft launches AI service for US spies, internet-divorced. #Cybersecurity

Microsoft has launched a generative AI model that functions entirely detached from the internet, making it the first of its kind. This model allows US intelligence agencies to securely analyze top-secret information without the risk of data leaks or hacks. The project took 18 months to develop and is based on the GPT4 model, with key elements stored in an “air-gapped” environment. This isolated version is only accessible by the US government and does not learn from files or the open internet, ensuring the model remains “clean” and secure. Around 10,000 people will have access to this AI, which can answer questions and write code. The CIA is also developing an AI tool to help sort through vast amounts of publicly available information, aiming to assist analysts in organizing and condensing data. This development highlights the increasing use of AI in intelligence operations and the importance of secure and isolated systems for handling sensitive information.
