Microsoft has developed a secretive generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform for U.S. intelligence agencies to safely analyze sensitive data without internet connection. This AI tool, based on GPT-4, is isolated from the internet in an air-gapped cloud environment accessible only to the U.S. government. The platform aims to provide actionable insights by analyzing massive amounts of data and recognizing patterns. While the CIA previously used a generative AI tool for unclassified purposes, the new platform enhances security against cyberthreats and prevents leakage of sensitive national security information. The AI platform is in a testing and accreditation phase before broader use by about 10,000 members of the intelligence community.
