Google has clarified that the Wallet app is not officially launched in India, but some users in the country can access it via the Google Play Store. The app allows for contactless payments using tokenized debit and credit cards, which enhances security by replacing card numbers with unique codes or virtual cards. Unlike Google Pay, which offers UPI payment services in India, Google Wallet focuses solely on contactless payments with credit/debit cards on smartphones with NFC support.

Google plans to maintain both Google Pay and Google Wallet apps in India to cater to different user preferences. Users with compatible WearOS-powered smartwatches can also use the Wallet app for contactless payments directly from their wrist. Eligible Android smartphone users can download the Google Wallet app from the Play Store to store cards and passes. The app also offers features like automatic pass addition from Gmail and biometric verification for payment authentication, enhancing user convenience and security.
