Meta replaces ‘Made With AI’ labels with ‘AI Info’ #AIinfo

Tech giant Meta recently replaced its ‘Made With AI’ feature with a new label called ‘AI Info’ after facing backlash from photographers. The change was made to address complaints about mislabeling content created by humans as AI-generated. The confusion arose because even basic editing tools were being mistaken for AI usage. Meta’s new label aims to provide clarity and prevent such confusion in the future. The company clarified that it has not changed the AI detection technology used in its apps, but only altered the terminology to avoid misunderstandings. The new label, ‘AI Info,’ is intended to convey that images may have been modified or edited using AI tools, rather than completely generated by AI. However, the update does not fully address the issue of accurately identifying AI-based images, as it does not specify the extent to which AI tools were used in editing. Meta and other apps may need to collaborate to establish guidelines that satisfy users and photographers without undermining their work. Experts suggest that companies like Adobe should also provide warnings to photographers about the use of certain tools that could result in images being labeled on various platforms.
