Apple is working on incorporating AI capabilities into its upcoming iPhone 16 line-up, with plans to unveil new AI features in June. The company is in talks with OpenAI to strategize its AI game plan, focusing on integrating AI into various applications and features such as automatic text generation and article summarization in Safari. Apple’s AI model, named Ajax, will power these new features, but there are no plans for an in-house ChatGPT-style chatbot. Instead, Apple is considering partnering with Google or OpenAI for this purpose. While discussions initially centered on Google’s Gemini, talks with OpenAI have also intensified. However, there is uncertainty about whether iPhone users will adopt these new features, as Apple is concerned that many users may not utilize the enhancements. Despite the current AI boom, Apple fears that these new capabilities may not gain traction among customers, as many new features introduced by the company in the past have failed to do so.
