OpenAI’s messaging system hacked, AI tech details stolen #cybersecurity

A hacker gained access to the internal messaging systems of artificial intelligence developer OpenAI and stole details of its technologies earlier this year. The breach was not considered a threat to national security, so OpenAI did not make it public or inform authorities. The hacker obtained information about AI technologies from online forums but did not access the systems where the AI is housed. OpenAI executives informed employees and the board of directors about the breach but did not notify law enforcement because they believed the hacker was a private individual with no ties to a foreign government. Some employees raised concerns about the potential for foreign adversaries to steal AI technology and endanger US national security. Leopold Aschenbrenner, a former OpenAI employee, raised concerns about the company’s security measures and was later fired. OpenAI disputed his claims and stated that they addressed the security incident internally.
