Scarlett Johansson hires Hollywood lawyer for OpenAI voice dispute. #legalbattle

Bloomberg Law

Hollywood lawyer John Berlinski, known for representing Scarlett Johansson in her lawsuit against Disney, is now representing her in a fight with OpenAI over the use of a chatbot voice that sounded like her. Johansson hired legal counsel after rejecting an offer to voice an audio feature for OpenAI’s chatbot. OpenAI has since replaced the voice, claiming it was not intended to resemble the actress. Berlinski is handling Johansson’s dealings with OpenAI, while the company is using Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati partner David Kramer. Johansson previously sued Disney over the release of “Black Widow” on Disney+ simultaneously with its theatrical release, resulting in a settlement in September 2021. Berlinski has a history of representing celebrities in legal disputes, including securing a $179 million arbitration award for “Bones” stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz against 21st Century Fox. OpenAI is facing legal challenges from artists and writers over its training methods and content usage, leading to lawsuits touching on copyright and intellectual property issues. The company has enlisted firms like Latham & Watkins, Morrison Foerster, and Keker Van Nest & Peters for its defense in some of these cases.
